What is a 2-inch trigger for snow plowing?
A trigger is how much new snow must fall before a plow comes. Ours is 2 inches. Below that we stay home. At 2 inches or more we plow once the snow stops.
The short answer
You do not have to call us. When 2 inches or more of new snow has fallen, we plow your driveway after the snow stops, and we text you when we start and when we finish.
Why 2 inches
- Less than 2 inches is often not worth a trip. It melts, gets walked on, or gets cleared by the sun and salt.
- Waiting for a bigger storm is slower for you. Deep snow packs under tires and is harder to push.
- It keeps the pass fair. Your 12 plows go to storms that need them, not to a dusting.
What this looks like
| Snow that falls | What we do |
|---|---|
| Under 2 inches | No plow by default. Text us if you want a visit. |
| 2 to 6 inches | One plow, counted toward your 12. |
| 6 to 12 inches | Billed at about 1.5 times the per-plow price for per-plow customers. |
| 12 inches or more | Confirmed by text before we start. |
When the snow stops at 1.9 inches
Text us. We will decide with you. A minimum visit is $55.
Why ask about the trigger when you compare plow companies
Two companies can list the same price and mean different things. Ask each one: How many inches before you come? Is it per storm or per visit? What is covered in a big storm? Then compare. Try the cost calculator or read pass vs per plow.
Questions
What is a trigger depth in snow plowing?
It is the amount of new snow that has to fall before a plow comes. Our trigger is 2 inches.
What if only 1.5 inches fall?
Then it is under the trigger and we do not plow by default. Text us if you want a visit anyway. A visit under the trigger is billed as a minimum visit ($55 for per-plow customers).
Does ice count?
The trigger is for snow depth. Ice is not snowfall, so it does not count toward it. Salt is a separate add-on, $15 to $25 a visit.
Can I get a lower trigger?
Text us and ask. The pass is priced for a 2-inch trigger, so any change would be quoted in writing first.
Does each plow count toward the 12?
Yes. Each plow after the trigger counts as one of your 12. Plows after the 12th are billed per plow.
