Saugus snow rules you should know

Parking
Saugus does not appear to have a standing winter parking ban. The town declares a Town-Wide Parking Ban storm by storm (past notices ran from a morning or midnight start until the evening or until lifted), and cars left on the street may be ticketed and towed. Under the town traffic rules the Chief of Police can prohibit parking in an impending or existing emergency. The official notices could not be fetched this time, so check with the town.
Sidewalks
The town bylaws we read have no rule requiring owners to clear sidewalks. They do bar throwing snow from private property onto public streets ($25, Sec. 602.03) and depositing snow on any public or private way (Sec. 601.02). Check with the town about any newer rule.
Alerts
The town's Alert Center lets you subscribe to Notify Me or RSS for alerts and emergencies, and a website account manages notification subscriptions. Sign up or check.

Plowing a driveway in Saugus

Saugus is a town of about 11.8 square miles and 28,600 people. It is made up of several neighborhood villages, including Cliftondale, Oaklandvale, Saugus Center and Pleasant Hills. Route 1 and the Salem Turnpike run through it. Housing details are not broken out in the sources we read, so tell us about your lot and drive when you ask for a price.

Parking works storm by storm. We found no standing overnight winter ban in the bylaws we read. Instead the town declares a Town-Wide Parking Ban when a big storm is forecast, and cars left out can be ticketed and towed. Past notices pointed residents to overflow lots such as the upper lot at the Middle/High School and the Anna Parker Playground lot. Check with the town for the current plan. The town plows push snow to the side of the street, and a bank forms at the end of each driveway. That bank is the part that blocks you in after a storm.

For driveways, the town's bylaws bar throwing snow from private property onto public streets, with a $25 fine in Sec. 602.03. That matters when you clear a drive next to the road, because the snow has to be placed on your own lot. The bylaws we read have no rule that makes owners clear public sidewalks. If you want your sidewalk or a long drive cleared, ask when you request a price. A drive on a hillier street can take longer than a flat one, so tell us the slope and width.
