Stoneham snow rules you should know

Parking
From December 1 to April 1, no parking on public streets from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. When 3 inches of snow or more accumulates a parking emergency exists and on-street parking is not allowed at any time. During snow operations the Director of Public Works may have vehicles that interfere moved at the owner's cost. Parking on sidewalks is never allowed.
Sidewalks
The town code requires only buildings along listed downtown streets (Central Square, parts of Franklin and Main streets) to clear sidewalks: within five hours if snow stops in the daytime, or before 1 p.m. the next day if at night. No general duty for home sidewalks was found. Anyone clearing snow must not put it on the sidewalk or public way; the DPW page says that carries a fine of up to $200.
Alerts
No snow or parking alert system was found on the town pages. The town site lets you create a website account to manage notification subscriptions.

Plowing a driveway in Stoneham

Stoneham is a town of about 6.7 square miles with a little over 23,000 people, set between the Middlesex Fells and Interstate 93. Town sources do not break down the housing types, but the town has historic homes around Nobility Hill and some streets near Bear Hill and the Spot Pond area. Tell us about the slope and width of your drive when you ask for a price.

Winter parking is simple to state. From December 1 to April 1 nobody may park on public streets from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Once 3 inches of snow or more has fallen, a parking emergency begins and on-street parking is not allowed at all. Cars left out can be moved at the owner's expense, so most people keep cars in the driveway during a storm. The town's DPW plows streets first and then about 30 miles of sidewalks in the school and business district.

The DPW says a sidewalk plow can leave a windrow across a driveway after you have left for the day, so it is common to come home to a heavy ridge of snow right at the end of the drive. Putting snow back into the street or onto the sidewalk is not allowed, and the town page lists a fine of up to $200. That affects where plowed snow can go, especially on tight lots near the center. The town code only requires clearing sidewalks along listed downtown streets, so most home owners are not covered by a shoveling deadline.
